Dogs don’t usually go to ski resorts because no doubt there are better places to hang out while “mom” and “dad” are on the slopes all day and reveling apres ski in some pub slopeside.

Also, it’s usually very cold and very snowy and unless you’re a St. Bernard with an emergency flask of bourbon around your neck, most dogs are not overly excited about spending too much time in the snow.  Spike was not at all and our visit there was during my “running obsession” during which I had to run, with Spike, every morning. A stupid habit to entertain in winter mountainous regions.  I ended up carrying him in my arms home the first morning along the icy sidewalk – snow and ice coating the long, shaggy white hair around his paws.  Not happy! Neither of us!

In true European dog-friendly fashion we were welcome to ride up the mountain in the gondola which we certainly did for one of Spike’s most epic pictures ever!

Nendaz is the largest ski resort in the Swiss Valais Region. Nendaz sits between Verbier and Veysonnaz and looks down over the Rhone Valley.
