If you can detour anywhere near the center of Oregon visit Crater Lake! 1,943 feet deep with ice melt and rainfall – it is the deepest lake in the USA and one of the 10 deepest in the world.
This National Park is home to more than 40 volcanos, the youngest of them (erupted 4,800 years ago below the lake’s surface). The most powerful one in the park houses Crater Lake and a walk around the rim blesses you with amazing views both out into the Cascades and wildness and into the deep blue stillness below. The water is considered the cleanest in the world and is exceptional for its clarity and intense blue color.
Thoughts and Things
We lived in Oregon for a few years and it is indeed one of the most beautiful States in the USA. It honestly has everything from a profoundly beautiful coastline through high-desert and spectacular mountains and skiing. It is an outdoor lover’s playground and miles of hiking and trails – many of which allow dogs.
