We have always enjoyed trips to Palm Springs, California with Spike. The place is a dog-friendly, sophisticated little jewel in the dusty Coachella Valley. It is old-Hollywood glamor, mid-century modern, and draws millions of visitors to its hot springs, natural beauty, and many outdoorsy opportunities.
Golf is the drawcard for us here and we were so happy that Spike was allowed to drive around in the golf cart with us (provided he stayed in the golf cart).
There are a staggering one hundred and ten spectacularly lush golf courses in the desert below the San Jacinto Mountains. Of course, the area is located in the Sonoran Desert and water is at a premium. Irrigation for the golf courses uses about 1/4 of the water pumped from wells in the Coachella Valley and to try and alleviate the burden a lot of golf course managers have converted turf to desert landscaping and use reclaimed water.
We have stayed in three different places, all pet-friendly. Casa Cody is an intimate, boutique hideaway in downtown Palm Springs – charming and historic it is the oldest operating hotel in the town.
Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort is one of the premier public courses in Palm Springs. We enjoyed hanging out on the patio on the golf course and playing with Spike following along in the golf cart during our round.
Desert Hot Springs is a convenient and cheaper option to Palm Springs accommodation. We stayed a couple of times at Desert Hot Springs Inn which is the most dog-friendly place imaginable! We have happy memories of watching shooting stars streak across the desert sky lying next to the pool.
We enjoyed the fact that both times we had the place pretty much to ourselves and they allowed Spike to relax around the pool with us.
So many memories. At night the sky blazes with stars and the hyacinth haze of the early dawn in this part of the world is well worth getting up for whether you play golf or not.
